Mr. White is a member of the Bar in the States of Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas and is a member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States and the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute, and has served on the International Association of Drilling Contractors’ Contracts Committee, as well as the Maritime Law Association’s Marine Insurance and General Average Committee. Mr. White has a Martindale-Hubbell AV rating, and was named a “Top Lawyer” in the New Orleans Magazine in 2009 for Admiralty and Maritime Law.

Mr. White’s current law practice involves primarily energy, marine, and commercial litigation but also involves drafting and negotiating transactional instruments for clients engaged in the oil and gas industry, the maritime industry, and general commercial activities.

Education
Mr. White was graduated from University ofMississippi School of Business Administration in 1973, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting, with other emphases in english and economics, and obtained his juris doctorate from University of Mississippi Law School in 1975. He was a member of both Phi Delta Phi and a member of the Moot Court Board during that time, and received three American Jurisprudence Publisher’s awards.

Professional Narrative

J. Ralph White is founding partner of the firm which has offices in New Orleans, Louisiana and Oxford, Mississippi. He was formerly a partner with the firm of Montgomery, Barnett, Brown, Read, Hammond & Mintz in New Orleans, and is a former staff attorney with Chevron USA, Inc., as well as General Counsel of Penrod Drilling Company. Penrod Drilling Company was one of the world’s largest contract drilling organizations, and was engaged in extensive foreign and domestic oil well drilling operations on land and offshore. He also served in the Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corp, as a courts-martial prosecutor and Assistant Staff Judge Advocate from 1976 to 1979.

Ralph White was admitted to the bars of Mississippi in 1975; Louisiana in 1980; and Texas in 1986; and practices in the following courts: U.S. District Court, Eastern Western and Middle Districts of Louisiana; U.S. District Court, Northern and Southern Districts of Mississippi; U.S. District Court, Northern, Eastern and Southern Districts of Texas; U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth and Eleventh Circuits; U.S. Supreme Court; U.S. Court of Federal Claims. He is also a member of the American Bar Association and Lafayette County Bar Association; the Maritime Law Association of the United States and the Southeastern Admiralty Law Institute.

Personal

J. Ralph White was born in Oxford, Mississippi, and currently divides his time between the New Orleans and Oxford offices of the firm.
